A Little Background
The Building Code of Australia (BCA) provides essential technical regulations
for the design and construction of buildings, and as a
national performance-based document it establishes a uniform approach to
building regulation in every State and Territory in the country.
The BCA is developed by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) for the
Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments.
Enabled by each Government’s legislation, the BCA is then used as the minimum
requirement to gain approval for building proposals
The BCA covers such topics as structure, fire resistance, health and amenity,
building access and egress, & building services and equipment.
It is presented in two separate publications covering commercial buildings
(Volume One - Class 2 to 9 buildings) and residential construction
also known as the Housing Provisions (Volume Two - Class 1 and 10 buildings).
Importantly the Housing Provisions are written in plain English and follows the
typical staged flow of residential construction, from site
preparation to completion. It also includes diagrams and commentary explaining the various
clauses.
Previously the BCA had been amended every six months, however starting in 2004
the BCA has moved to a single annual publication with any
amendments being made in that single yearly edition.
BCA + Standards Annual Subscription Service
Available as both an On-Line or CD-ROM service, BCA + Standards provides the
most flexible and convenient way to use the Building Code.
Included in the annual subscription are both Volumes One and Two of the BCA plus
access to all of the referenced Australian Standards®.
Underpinning the BCA is the strength of around 150 Australian Standards® that
are referenced by the ABCB when developing the Code.
These Standards are critical to the functioning of the Building Code.
With the BCA now being revised annually, the referenced Australian Standards®
are current at the time the BCA is published. With around 15% of
all Australian Standards® being routinely updated during the year to reflect
key industry changes, there is always the possibility that some of
those referenced Standards will be updated during the year.
To help you avoid the confusion of having your subscription out of synch with
the prevailing BCA the BCA + Standards subscription only provides you
with the version of Australian Standards® in force at the time they were
referenced in the Building Code. This means that some of the referenced
Standards may become out of date during the course of the subscription,
although they are still valid in the current BCA edition.
Incredible Savings
If you were to buy the Standards included in this service separately, you would
expect to pay more than $6,000.00.
And they represent some of our most popular publications including: AS 1684
Timber Framing Code, AS 4100 Steel Structures, AS/NZS 3000
Wiring Rules, AS 3600 Concrete Structures and AS 3700 Masonry Structures. These
Standards alone are worth more than $700.00 retail.
However in bundling them all together in this one package we are able to offer
them at an incredible saving.
